When completing the task is a setting that allows you to configure if the user should be redirected to Lists, sent to the next Task, or redirected to a specific URL after the Task has been completed.

How to change the user experience when completing tasks

This setting can be set on any sequence flow. The available experiences are go to next task, go to lists and go to URL.

Note: The default is that the performer is redirected to the lists once they have completed a task.

If you want to change this behavior, follow the steps below:

1. Double click on the sequence flow that is located after the task you want to change the user experience for.

2. Go to the User experience section.

3. In the drop-down under When completing the task, select the option you prefer.

4. If you choose the option go to URL, you will need to add the URL of where you would like the user to be redirected.

Note: Whenever you want to use the setting go to next task, you need to apply the setting on each sequence flow connecting the two tasks the performer is supposed to be redirected between. If you have the setting go to lists on any of the flows between the two tasks, the performer is sent to lists. If that sequence flow is before a gateway, the user is redirected to lists and the gateway task is presented in the list. The recommendation is to only use the go to next task setting when the same user has two consecutive tasks to perform.

When to change the user experience for completing tasks

The default value of what happens when completing a task is go to lists, this is useful for those process applications where you want to simply complete a task and then get back to your to-do list.

However, if you have sequential tasks that may be performed by the same person and want to give the user the experience of jumping from one step in the process to the next, select go to next task instead.
