Q: How do I create processes in Barium Live BPMN Modeler 2.0?

A: As a modeler you can choose to use the new modeling tool (Create BPMN 2.0 process) or the old one (Create BPMN 1.0 process) when creating a new process model from the processes list in Barium Live since there are now two buttons instead of one.

Q: Will you stop maintaining the old modeling tool?

A: As long as the old modeling tool is available, we will work with stabilization, bug fixes and maintenance. We will put the focus of our development effort into the new tool and the goal is that the old tool will eventually be replaced by the new.

Q: What elements of BPMN 2.0 will not be supported?

A: The focus is primarily on supporting everything related to execution, what in BPMN 2.0 is called Collaboration Diagrams. There are two new types of diagrams in BPMN 2.0, called Conversation and Choreography Diagram. These contain symbols that do not yet have any support for execution and we have therefore chosen not to include support for these symbols yet.

See this poster for an illustrative description of which parts of BPMN 2.0 our tool supports.

Q: Why not supported the entire BPMN 2.0 standard?

A: Our focus is to support all parts of BPMN 2.0 related to execution. Today, Conversations and Choreographies are two new categories that are not designed for execution.

See this poster for an illustrative description of which parts of BPMN 2.0 our tool supports.

Q: When should you use the old modeling tool and when should you use the new one?

A: The new modeling tool can be used with advantage to model and document business processes. However, not all the configuration features available in the old tool are implemented in the new tool at this first launch. We will continue to develop the functionality continuously to finally have support for everything that you currently do in the old modeling tool.

To see which parts are missing in the new modeling tool, you can at any time see it in this article about the differences between the BPMN 1.0 tool and the BPMN 2.0 tool.

Q. When will BPMN Modeler 2.0 have full support for everything that BPMN Modeler 1.0 has?

A: As soon as possible. We are currently working on development that will be rolled out in short itterations where each release will add more features and decrease the functionality gap a little more each time.
